COLOMBIA – In the first half of 2024 (6M-2024), particleboard imports in Latin America demonstrated varied trends across different countries.

The total imports in the region amounted to USD 266.3 million, showing a slight decline of 2.6% compared to USD 273.5 million during the same period in 2023.

This decline reflects the ongoing shifts in market demand and economic conditions impacting the region.

Colombia continued to lead the market as the largest importer, with particleboard imports valued at USD 84.9 million. This represents a significant increase of 15.9% from USD 73.3 million in 6M-2023.

In contrast, Peru and Mexico faced notable declines, with imports falling to USD 66.1 million and USD 47.7 million, respectively, marking decreases of 16.9% and 16.3%. Guatemala, on the other hand, experienced a remarkable growth in imports, rising by 48.4% to reach USD 10.9 million.

Other countries, such as Bolivia and the Dominican Republic, reported decreases in their imports, while El Salvador and Honduras saw increases of 24.5% and 36.3%, respectively.

Looking at the entire year of 2023, Colombia also topped the list with total imports of USD 137.3 million, followed closely by Peru at USD 134.5 million and Mexico with USD 105.6 million. This data underscores the fluctuating demand for particleboard in the region and highlights the ongoing changes in market dynamics, which are influenced by factors such as construction activity, furniture production, and international trade policies.
