ECUADOR – Ecuadorian exports of particleboard / MDP (PB/MDP) had a record year in 2019 as they totaled USD 128.10 million. Achieving this figure involved an 8.0 percent growth over the 2018 result when the year closed with PB/MDP exports for USD 118.57 million.
Behind this record performance is Novopan del Ecuador, which supplied 99.1 percent of the country’s total particleboard / MDP exports. In 2019, Novopan’s PB/MDP exports reached USD 126.92 million and a growth of 8.9 percent compared to 2018 (USD 116.59 million).
The main external market for Ecuadorian particleboard continues to be Colombia. In 2019, Ecuadorian PB/MDP for USD 73.64 million was shipped to the neighboring country, an improvement of 4.2 percent compared to 2018 (USD 70.66 million).
Peru was the second external market in importance for Ecuadorian particleboard in 2019. With purchases for USD 46.33 million Peru showed solid growth, up 11.2 percent compared to 2018 (USD 41.67 million).
Together Peru and Colombia account for 93.6 percent of Ecuadorian particleboard exports in 2019.
While in Colombia there is local production of PB/MDP by Duratex and Primadera, in Peru there is no national production since the closure of Tableros Peruanos S.A. (Tapesa) in early 2017.
