Valmet Finalizes Acquisition of Demuth in Brazil

FINLAND – Valmet, has finalized the acquisition of Demuth, a Brazilian company specializing in wood handling solutions, as announced on December 22, 2023. The financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.

1095VALMETDemuth, which began operations on June 1, 1981, operates two manufacturing facilities in southern Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state. The company’s annual net sales range from EUR 20–30 million and it employs approximately 400 people.

This acquisition aligns with Valmet’s strategy to enhance its offerings in competitive and reliable process technologies, services, and automation for the pulp, paper, and energy sectors. It significantly bolsters Valmet’s wood handling technology and service capabilities in South America.

The acquired business will be integrated into Valmet’s South America Area organization and its offerings will become part of the Pulp and Energy business line’s Woodhandling technology unit.

Juha-Matti Liukkonen, Director of the global Woodhandling technology unit, noted, “This acquisition significantly enhances our wood handling technology and service capabilities in South America, complementing our global presence and product portfolio. I’m particularly pleased that Demuth’s wood handling expertise now complements Valmet’s contributions to flagship projects, such as the CMPC Guaíba II pulp mill.”

Valmet is a developer and supplier of process technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries. The company’s technology offerings include pulp mills, tissue, board and paper production lines and power plants for bioenergy production.
