Sonae Arauco to Receive Wind Energy in Germany

GERMANY – Sonae Arauco is advancing its sustainability goals by moving closer to carbon neutrality. As a global leader in wood-based solutions, the company is actively driving the industry’s transition towards sustainability.

1072SONAEARAUCO2Recently, Sonae Arauco finalized a Wind Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with ENGIE for its operations in Germany, effective from April 1.

A newly established wind farm in the Harz Mountains will supply Sonae Arauco’s facilities in Nettgau, Meppen, and Kaisersesch, covering approximately 15% of their energy needs. Complementing its existing biomass energy production in Beeskow, this move emphasizes Sonae Arauco’s commitment to renewable energy sources.

Dr. Steffen Körner, Managing Director of Sonae Arauco Deutschland GmbH, highlights the company’s long-term commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. The agreement with ENGIE, valid until 2028, allows flexibility for future adjustments to meet evolving sustainability requirements.

Sonae Arauco is dedicated to sustainable development across its value chain, aligning with its decarbonization objectives. The PPA with ENGIE is part of a broader initiative to invest in renewable energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing environmental impact.

Beyond utilizing renewable energy, Sonae Arauco’s products contribute to CO2 reduction by harnessing wood’s natural carbon storage capabilities. This aligns with the company’s efforts to address climate change through various ongoing projects.
