Positive trend in the Portuguese furniture industry

PORTUGAL – Sales of home furniture in Portugal registered an increase of almost 4 percent to 430 million euros in 2018, prolonging the growing trend that began in 2014, which translates into an average annual growth of 4.6 percent from this last exercise.

834PORTUGALThere is a growing internationalization of the activity of the Portuguese manufacturers, therefore exports accounted for 70 percent of the value of national production in 2018, compared with 56 percent in 2011 and 44 percent in 2008. Sales abroad amounted to 544 million euros, which contrasts with the value of 477 million in 2015 and 352 million in 2011. Imports, meanwhile, increased by 9 percent up to 197 million euros, although this value is even lower than the most of 200 million posted in 2008. The data is derived from the sector’s study published by the Observatorio Sectorial DBK, which carries out the continuous monitoring of some 700 Spanish and Portuguese sectors, publishing annually about 300 in-depth reports and 1,000 datasheets.
