Peru’s Particleboard Imports Decline in First Half 2024

PERU – In the first half of 2024 (6M-2024), Peru experienced a notable decrease in its imports of particleboard / MDP, with total import values falling by 16.9% compared to the same period in 2023.

1094PERU1The import value dropped from USD 79.5 million in 2023 to USD 66.1 million in 2024, signaling an important shift in market dynamics.

The largest importer, Novopan Peru, reported a decrease of 13.7%, with imports totaling USD 32.2 million, down from USD 37.3 million last year. This decline reflects a broader trend among major importers, with several key players experiencing substantial reductions. Representaciones Martín saw the most dramatic drop, with its import values falling by 44.6%, from USD 19.4 million in 6M-2023 to USD 10.7 million in 6M-2024.

In contrast, Maderas America managed to increase its imports by 9.4%, reaching USD 6.4 million compared to USD 5.8 million the previous year. Arauco Peru faced a 26.8% reduction, with imports falling to USD 6.2 million. Inversiones Jocema and Grupo Yofasa were notable exceptions to the downward trend, showing impressive growths of 298.9% and 163.1%, respectively, with import values rising to USD 3.1 million and USD 1.4 million.

Ecuador was again the main supplying country, but experienced a 13.4% decrease, with export values dropping to USD 32.9 million in 6M-2024 from USD 38.0 million in 6M-2023. Spain also saw a notable decrease, with exports falling by 24.5%, resulting in USD 13.8 million worth of imports in 6M-2024 compared to USD 18.3 million in same period 2023..

Brazil was one of the few countries to see an increase in its exports to Peru, with a 15.1% rise, bringing the total to USD 11.1 million in 6M-2024. Meanwhile, Chile faced a significant decline of 37.8%, with exports dropping to USD 7.4 million from USD 11.9 million in 2023.
