COLOMBIA – During the first five months of 2015 Colombian imports of particleboard reached USD 27.8 million compared to USD 31.5 million in the same period 2014. This 11.7% drop was mainly due to an important reduction in imports of chilean product.
Among the main supplying companies to the Colombian market, Ecuadorian manufacturer Novopan exports reached USD 17.7 million, an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period 2014. While exports of Chilean suppliers Paneles Arauco and Masisa to Colombia both declined compared to same period last year, Arauco’s exports were down 37.7% and Masisa’s were down by 28.1%. Masisa was able to offset this drop with an increase in exports to Colombia from its afiliate Fibranova in Venezuela, that were up by 15.7% in the period.
Imports from other sources decreased from USD 3.2 million in the first five months of 2014 to USD 1.8 million in the same period 2015 (-43.3%).
