GERMANY –   Sauerland Spanplatte and  Siempelkamp are partnering on a new recycled-wood cleaning plant in Gotha, ordered in 2023, with commissioning anticipated for late 2025.

This collaboration, which sets a new benchmark for sustainability and the circular economy, is progressing steadily despite the challenges of construction within an active production facility. The recycling tower’s steel structure has reached 24 of its 34-meter height, a testament to the close teamwork between the companies.

Following a successful joint appearance at the LIGNA trade fair, both partners feel their recycling concept has been firmly validated by market interest.

The new plant will have a capacity of 15 tons per hour and is designed to process waste wood, removing impurities such as metal, glass, plastic, and stones. This process will yield a high-purity wood fraction for reuse in the particleboard industry, while foreign materials are diverted into their own recycling streams.

In the future, this will allow half of the Gotha facility’s particleboard production to be made from recycled wood, reducing reliance on virgin materials. The cleaned wood will be used for high-quality extruded particleboard, which is used in applications like door inserts and the packaging industry, and offers properties such as low thickness swelling and high compressive strength.

This innovative project highlights the commitment of both Sauerland Spanplatte and Siempelkamp to resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.
