PERU - Peruvian imports of particleboard (PB / MDP) reached USD 37.52 million in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q-2020: USD 24.40 million), a new record for the first quarter of the year and strong year-on-year growth of 53.8 percent.
Representaciones Martín, with an increase of 158.3 percent compared to 1Q-2020, was the second importing company with USD 10.03 million, below the USD 14.37 million (1Q-2020: USD 10.36 million) imported by the main importer Novopan Perú, which represented an increase of 38.6 percent, compared to 1Q-2020.
Maderas América continued with an increase of 88.7 percent, reaching USD 3.02 million (1Q-2020: USD 1.60 million).
Arauco Peru and Masisa Peru had sharp falls in their imports in 1Q-2021 of 21.6 percent and 57.7 percent, reaching USD 2.62 million and USD 1.27 million respectively.
Ecuador was once again the main supplier country of PB / MDP to Peru in the first quarter of 2021 with shipments of USD 14.54 million that represented a notable increase of 37.6 percent.
Spain ranked second with USD 10.39 million and an increase of 152.1 percent compared to the USD 4.12 million shipped in 1Q-2020.
Brazil, with a strong growth of 126.8 percent, was the third supplier country in 1Q-2021 with USD 6.87 million (1Q-2020: USD 3.03 million). Chile followed with USD 3.09 million (1Q-2020: 6.40 million), which represented a sharp fall of 51.6%.
