MEXICO – Ikea, the Swedish furniture company will open its first store on April 8 in Mexico City.
The event, which was initially scheduled for last October, has been delayed due to restrictions related to the Covid 19 pandemic.
The store will have 23,500 square meters, 300 employees and will be located in the Encuentro Oceanía shopping center. In order to maintain social distancing measures, the store is requiring that visitors go online to schedule a visit.
The first store in Mexico will have a different model than the one used in the US or Europe. It will be in a more central area of the city within a shopping center, rather than on the outskirts. The place will be smaller than most US stores and will be designed under a more digital model.
The next store in Mexico will be in Puebla, in the Vía San Ángel Mall. It is slated to open during the second semester of 2022. during the second semester of 2022. Another Ikea store is scheduled to open in Monterrey, but there is still no specific location. In the rest of the continent there are already locations under construction in Chile, Colombia and Peru.
