PERU - Amid the negative effects of the coronavirus on trade, Peruvian imports of particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) increased by a strong 88.1 percent in November 2020 reaching USD 13.10 million compared to USD 6.96 million in the same month of 2019.

With an increase of 41.0 percent and shipments for USD 5.10 million in November 2020 (November 2019: USD 3.62 million), Ecuador was once again the main supplier country of PB / MDP to the Peruvian market. While Chile, with an increase of 115.4 percent in November 2020, was the second supplier country of PB / MDP to Peru with shipments for USD 2.83 million (November 2019: USD 1.31 million). Spain with shipments for USD 2.92 million (November-2019: USD 1.21 million) and an impressive increase of 274.1 percent, the highest among the main supplying countries, was the third supplier country to the Peruvian market in November 2020.

The main Peruvian importer of PB / MDP in November 2020 was again Novopan Peru, with USD 5.10 million (November 2019: USD 3.56 million), which represents an increase of 43.3 percent and a participation of 39 percent of the total PB / MDP imported in November-2020 by the Peruvian market. This equates to a loss of 12.2 percentage points compared to November 2019 (51.2 percent share).

The second importing company in November 2020 was Representaciones Martín with USD 2.49 million, an significant increase of 132.6 percent (November 2019: USD 1.07 million) and a participation of 19.1 percent of the total imported value of PB / MDP in the month ( November 2019: 15.4 percent share).

Arauco Peru (USD 1.33 million), Maderas América (USD 1.28 million) and Masisa Peru (USD 1.12 million) followed as the main importers of PB / MDP from Peru with increases of 161 percent, 155.3 percent and 40.7 percent respectively.
