PERU - Despite the negative effects of coronavirus on trade, Peruvian imports of Particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) were up a strong 22.7 percent in August 2020 reaching USD 11.84 million compared to USD 9.64 million in the same month of 2019.

With a 3.3 percent decrease and shipments of USD 4.41 million (August-2019: USD 4.56 million), Ecuador was again the main supplier country of PB / MDP to the relevant Peruvian market in August-2020. While Chile, with a strong increase (+33.8 percent) in August, was the second supplier country of PB / MDP to Peru with shipments of USD 3.32 million (August-2019: USD 2.48 million). Spain with USD 2.09 million (August-2019: USD 1.06 million) and an increase of 96.1 percent, the largest growth among top suppliers, was the third supplier country.

Peru’s leading PB/MDP import company in August of 2020 was again Novopan Peru, with USD 4.34 million (August-2019: USD 4.55 million), representing a decrease of 4.6 percent and a share of 36.7 per percent of the country's total PB/MDP imports in August-2020. This represents a decrease of 10.5 percentage points compared to August-2019 ( 47.2 percent share).

The second importing company in August 2020 was Representaciones Martín with USD 1.91 million, a strong increase of 93.8 percent and a share of 16.2 percent of the total value imported in the month (August-2019: 10.2 percent share ).
