COLOMBIA - In the first six months of 2020 (6M-2020) the Colombian imports of particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) reached USD 38.7 million, this value is equivalent to a drop of 23.1 percent in comparison with the values recorded in the first six months of 2019 (USD 50.3 million).
Madecentro, as is customary given its broad market coverage, was the main importer, with more than 53% of the total value imported by the Colombian market in 6M-2020. The store chain specializing in supplies for the carpentry and furniture industry reached purchases abroad of PB / MDP for USD 20.74 million in 6M-2020, USD 8.13 million below the value imported in the same period of the previous year (6M-2019: USD 28.87 million) and a 28.2 percent drop.
The second place in the list of importing companies went to furniture manufacturer Maderkit, with imports of particleboard in 6M-2020 for USD 4.11 million, which represents a reduction of 4.8 percent compared to 6M-2019 (USD 4.32 million).
As a supplying company, Novopan del Ecuador is the leading supplier of particleboard / MDP to Colombia, with shipments for USD 25.56 million in 6M-2020 (6M-2019: USD 33.67 million), which represent a 24.1% reduction when compared to the same period of the previous year.
This performance maintains Ecuador as the main particleboard supplying country to Colombia in the first six months of 2020, followed by Chile (Arauco y Masisa); Brazil (Duratex and Berneck); and Spain (Tableros Hispanos).
