Colombian particleboard imports grow 3.5% in the first quarter of 2020

COLOMBIA - In the first three months of 2020 (1Q-2020) Colombian imports of particleboard (PB) / MDP reached USD 25.8 million, equivalent to a growth of 3.5 percent compared to the values recorded in the first three months 2019 (USD 24.9 million).

888COMLOMBIA2 1Madecentro, as usual, was the main importing company, with more than 53 percent of the total value imported by the Colombian market in 1Q-2020. The chain of stores specialized in supplies for the furniture and carpentry industry added purchases abroad of PB / MDP for USD 13.8 million in 1Q-2020. USD 449 thousand below what it imported in the same period of the previous year (USD 14.3 million) and a year-on-year drop of 3.1 percent.

The second place in the list of importing companies was for Arauco Colombia, with imports of particleboard in 1Q-2020 for USD 2.7 million, which represents a growth of 12.9 percent compared to 1Q-2019 (USD 2.4 million).

As a supplier company, Novopan del Ecuador is the leading particle board / MDP supplier to Colombia, with shipments for USD 16.9 million in 1Q-2020.

This performance places Ecuador again as the main particleboard supplier country to Colombia in the first three months of 2020, followed by Chile (Arauco and Masisa); Brazil (Duratex and Berneck); and by Spain with Tableros Hispanos.
