Peru’s particleboard imports fall 32% in April 2020

PERU - Echoing the negative effects of coronavirus on trade, Peruvian imports of Particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) fell 32 percent in April 2020 reaching USD 5.6 million against USD 8.3 million of the same month a year earlier.

884PERUWith a remarkable growth of 84.1 percent and shipments of USD 2.7 million (April-2019: USD 1.5 million), Spain was surprisingly the main supplier country of PB / MDP to the Peruvian market in April-2020. While Brazil, with a slight drop (-1.0 percent) in April, was the second supplier country of PB / MDP to Peru with shipments of USD 1.24 million (April-2019: USD 1.25 million). Chile with USD 932 thousand (April-2019: USD 2.1 million) and a hard decline of 55.9 percent was the third supplier country. Ecuador, with a very sharp drop of 80 percent, went from being the first supplier country in the same period of the previous year, to be the fourth with USD 688 thousand in April 2020 (April-2019: USD 3.4 million).

Peru's leading PB/MDP import company in the fourth month of 2020 was for the first time Representaciones Martín, with USD 2.5 million (April-2019: USD 1.4 million), representing a significant increase of 84.1 percent and a participation of 48.9 per percent of the country's total PB/MDP imports in April-2020. This is equivalent to an incredible improvement of 30.8 percentage points compared to April-2019 (18.1 percent participation).

The second importing company in April-2020 was Novopan Peru with USD 628 thousand, a sharp drop of 81.8 percent and a participation of 11.1 percent of the total value imported in the month (April-2019: participation of 41.3 percent).
