2020 edition of MEM Industrial reaches record numbers

MEXICO - MEM Industrial, held from  22 to 24 January 2020 at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City, received more than 7,000 national and international visitors and more than MXP 400 million in business.

868MEM4According to Azul Ogazón, director of the event, more than 130 companies and 200 brands represented from 9 countries were part of the exhibition, which covered the entire supply chain, from the forestry sector to Industry 4.0 applied to the transformation of wood and furniture and occupied an exhibition area of 14,000 m2 in the Citibanamex Center.

In addition, the director of MEM Industrial emphasized that the event held more than 20 conferences, workshops and seminars for free with the aim of giving impetus to sustainability, surface technology and the link between design and industry, which represented the main thematic axes of this edition.

Another important milestone of this edition was that MEM Industrial served as a platform to carry out three relevant awards around the thematic axes of 2020: The Forest Conservation Award (COBO2); the Furniture Design Award (PREDIM) and Makathon Makers for Good @ MEM Industrial 2020.

The Forest Conservation Award (COBO2) is led by the National Chamber of the Timber Industry (CANAINMA), in coordination with Hannover Fairs Mexico, and aims to recognize the commitment of institutions, personalities and companies in forest conservation. Among the outstanding institutions, CANAINMA awarded the National Forestry Commission, the Ministry of Economic Development of the State of Mexico, CONCAMIN and Reforestamos Mexico, for its contribution to the country's forestry sector.

The PREDIM awards are an initiative of the Mexican Association of Suppliers of the Woodworking and Furniture Industry (AMPIMM, A.C.), organized in conjunction with MEM Industrial with the support of DI-INTEGRA experts. Targeting architecture, industrial and interior design students, the goal of these awards is to promote innovation and close the gap between the student community and furniture manufacturers with a view to fostering the development of the industry and improving the quality of the furniture made in Mexico.

The third award, Makers for Good @ MEM Industrial 2020 is “A competition in which a series of teams race to create prototypes that solve specific problems. A fusion of the words ‘make’ and ‘marathon’, makeathons were born of the need to put the business talents of incubators and accelerators to the service of the creativity of ‘makers’ at fablabs, a concept that originated in 2001 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Broadly speaking, fablabs are workshops equipped with the technology, machinery and inputs to perform digital manufacturing on a small scale, as opposed to the mass production processes we generally perceive this as being limited to. In short, they are seedbeds for talent, training grounds, producers of prototypes and innovative solutions, and a means of making contact with incubators and accelerators” as explained by Christoph Hesse, Manager of MEM Industrial.

The 2021 edition on MEM Industrial will be held from 20 to 22 January in the pavilions of the  Citibanamex Center.
