Sodimac arrives in Uruguay

URUGUAY - On March 26 Sodimac opened its first store in the city of Montevideo, capital of Uruguay.

Sodimac-fachada-201503This opening marks the entry to the sixth South American market of the Chilean home improvement chain.

The new 10,000 m2 Sodimac Constructor store is part of the company’s strategic plan to have four stores in Uruguay by 2016. Besides this store located on Ave. Giannattasio, Sodimac builds another in the sector Sayago in Montevideo, expected to open later this year. The investment for these first two stores totals USD 40 million with which Sodimac expects to generate 450 new jobs.

Sodimac went international in 1994 with the entry into Colombia. In 2004 it started operations in Peru and four years later in the Argentine market. More recently, in 2013, it entered the Brazilean market with the acquisition of the Dicico chain that operated 56 stores in Sao Paulo. Under the Sodimac Homecenter, Sodimac Constructor, Dicico, Maestro, Homy and Imperial, banners the company achieved regional sales of USD 5,639 million in 2014.
