AUSTRIA –   The Austrian furniture giant XXXLutz Group is accelerating its bid to become the world’s leading furniture retailer, directly challenging Ikea’s market dominance.

With EUR 6.4 billion in annual revenue and 24,000 employees, the group is pursuing rapid growth via acquisitions and international expansion.

Recent acquisitions include the Porta Group in Germany—bringing in over 140 stores—as well as the Pfister Group in Switzerland, and retailers like Roller and tejo/Schulenburg. The company currently operates in 14 countries and continues to expand its footprint beyond Europe.

CEO Alois Kobler emphasized in the OMR Podcast that human connection is key to their retail approach. XXXLutz invests EUR 11 million annually in sales training, with a focus on personal development. The company also combines strong brick-and-mortar operations with an expanding digital presence, aiming to provide customers with flexible, omnichannel shopping experiences.

While not yet present in the U.S. market, Kobler confirmed global expansion is a priority. “There is no country we don’t want to enter,” he said, reiterating confidence that XXXLutz will surpass Ikea “not in retirement, but still within the company.”

The group is also committed to innovation, social and environmental responsibility, and regularly updates its product offerings to meet evolving customer expectations.
