BRAZIL (Notifix).- With the recent announcement of the agreement for the acquisition of a 51% stake in Brazilian Construdecor ( Dicico), Chilean retailer Sodimac (Falabella Group) begins its expansion in the Brazilian home improvement market.

Falabella’s CEO, Sandro Solari explained, “We bought a platform to grow in Brazil”. As its first step, Falabella plans to learn about the business in Brazil to then seek further expansion. With 57 stores and 118.000m2 of floor space, Dicico average store format is of 2.070m2, considerably smaller than the average Sodimac format in Chile of more than 8.000m2. “This agreement gives us the opportunity to grow, not only the Dicico format, but also in other home improvement formats such as Homecenter Sodimac and Sodimac Constructor” advised Sodimac’s Corporate Manager, Enrique Gundermann. Growth opportunities for Sodimac in Brazil are related with the considerable growth of the Brazilian middle class and the high level of market segmentation where the top 5 players have only a 10% market share.
