PERU – In the first six months of 2019 (1H-2019) Peruvian imports of wooden furniture reached USD 25.67 million, which represented a slight decrease of 1.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year (1H -2018: USD 25.94 million).
Brazil remained by far the main supplier country in 1H-2019 with USD 16.7 million, a figure that represented 65.04 percent of the total imported in 1H -2019 by the Peruvian market. China followed with USD 3.69 million and Malaysia with USD 1.1 million.
The main Peruvian importers of wooden furniture in 6M-2019 were Sodimac (ACE Peru SAC), the home improvement chain of the Falabella Group with USD 9.31 million; Saga Falabella, also of the Falabella Group, with USD 2.96 million; followed by Homecenters Peruanos under its Promart flag which reached USD 2.88 million.
Consolidated imports of the two main home improvement chains (Sodimac and Promart) accounted for 47.5 percent of the total imported in wood furniture to Peru in the first half of 2019, compared with 50.7 percent in the same period of 2018.
Imports of Sodimac (ACE Peru SAC) in 1H-2019 had a significant improvement of 17.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while imports of Promart (Homecenters Peruanos) had a sharp drop of 44.6 percent in 1H-2019 compared to the same period of the previous year.
