SPAIN – Danish home furnishings retailer JYSK has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art distribution center in Almenara, south of Castellón, as part of its strategy to expand in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

The facility, expected to be completed between 2027 and 2028, will create around 250 new jobs.
To support the project, JYSK has acquired a 274,000-square-meter plot from the Spanish family-owned Bertolín Group. The future distribution center will feature 182,500 pallet spaces, two high-bay storage areas, and multiple loading docks.
Solar panels will be installed on the roof to supply energy to the facility, and it will be certified according to the LEED Gold sustainability standard.
The site will also include new office space for the headquarters of JYSK Spain and Portugal. Until the new site is operational, JYSK’s current distribution center in Cheste, west of Valencia, will continue to handle deliveries to stores in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
“Our new distribution center in Almenara will not only create local jobs and a fantastic place to work, but also support JYSK’s future expansion in the region, where we see great potential for opening new stores,” said Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.
This investment is part of JYSK’s broader growth strategy. In September 2024, the company reached a milestone of 150 stores across Spain and Portugal. For the current fiscal year, JYSK plans to open more than 30 new stores and renovate nearly 20 to reflect the latest store concept.
JYSK currently employs 1,400 people in Spain and Portugal, with 128 stores in Spain and 25 in Portugal. The Almenara project follows the company’s recent opening of a distribution center in Hungary and planning for another in the Netherlands, as part of ongoing efforts to expand logistics capacity and meet growing customer demand in Europe.
