USA –   Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group, the largest Ikea retailer, has announced the acquisition of Locus, a leading US-based logistics technology company. The move strengthens Ikea’s digital logistics capabilities and gives the retailer greater control over a key stage of the customer journey.

In an era where seamless home delivery is central to the retail experience, Ikea has traditionally relied on multiple third-party providers to manage these complex operations. The acquisition of Locus marks a significant strategic step toward enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of Ikea’s global fulfilment network.

Locus offers an advanced AI-powered logistics management platform, including real-time tracking, route optimisation and intelligent resource allocation. Integrating this technology will help Ingka Group improve efficiency across its supply chain—from capacity planning to last-mile delivery—supporting Ikea’s goal of building a faster, smarter distribution network.

“This acquisition aligns perfectly with our commitment to improving the customer journey at every touchpoint,” said Tolga Öncü, Head of Ikea Retail (Ingka Group). “By bringing Locus’s technology in-house, we gain greater speed and flexibility to deliver to the many.”

Online sales accounted for 28% of Ikea’s total retail sales in FY24, up from 11% in FY19. The integration of Locus complements previous strategic digital investments, including Made4net for warehouse optimisation and TaskRabbit for furniture assembly services.

“Our vision is to create a better everyday life for the many, which includes delivering products when and how customers want them,” said Parag Parekh, Global Chief Digital Officer for Ikea Retail (Ingka Group).

For Locus, joining the Ikea family represents a milestone.

“This partnership preserves our independence while unlocking new scale and resources,” said Nishith Rastogi, Founder & CEO of Locus. “We will significantly expand our teams to continue driving innovation and long-term impact.”

Following the acquisition, Locus will remain operationally independent, continuing to serve existing partners while supporting Ikea’s broader digital transformation strategy.
