IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, announced that its future Miami-Dade store will open in Sweetwater, Florida at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
It will be the Swedish company’s second store in South Florida (Broward County’s IKEA Sunrise opened in 2007), fourth in the state and 39th in the United States.
“Construction work has advanced far enough to allow the interior build-up process and finishing details to be complete by August 27,” noted Selwyn Crittendon, store manager of the future IKEA Miami. “Now our primary goal is the final training of the more-than-350 local hires joining the IKEA coworker family.”
The 416,000 square-foot future IKEA Miami, with its nearly 1,500 parking spaces, is located on 14.6 acres adjacent to the Dolphin Mall, in the City of Sweetwater. The store will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, as well as significant sustainable building practices, including the installation of South Florida’s largest rooftop solar array.
IKEA Miami will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 44 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a children’s play area, and a 600-seat restaurant.
