CHINA – Ingka Group, the largest Ikea retailer, has officially launched its online store on JD.com, aiming to expand its reach in China with its home furnishing products and expertise.
The platform will offer more than 6,500 items across all categories, with delivery and membership benefits from day one. Special promotions will be available during the opening period to make Ikea’s offer even more accessible to JD.com customers.
According to Pontus Erntell, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer at Ikea China, the launch represents a milestone in the company’s omnichannel growth strategy, initiated in 2018 to improve accessibility for Chinese families. By 2027, Ikea plans to invest over CNY 6.3 billion (EUR 800 million) in China, opening new stores in cities such as Xi’an, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, as well as its first pickup point in the country.
Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) of Ikea Retail (Ingka Group), emphasized China’s role as one of the most advanced retail markets, offering valuable insights for global operations. The company is also reinforcing its sustainability commitments, with 92% of parcel and truck deliveries in China now made by electric vehicles, and 17 cities fully served by EVs.
