IKEA begins construction of logistics center in the Dominican Republic

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – On July 11, executives of IKEA and Caucedo Logistics Center (CLC) celebrated the start of construction of the new IKEA regional logistics operations building, strategically located in the facilities of Port Caucedo.

DP World Caucedo is a world-class marine terminal and free zone, located in Punta Caucedo, Dominican Republic, 25 kilometers from the city of Santo Domingo, the country’s capital. The Port of Caucedo main driver is in the combination of land, air and ocean transportation as a part of the DP World portfolio of marine terminals. DP World is a global leader in operations, terminal development, logistics and other related services. With more than 77 terminals on 6 continents, including new development projects in India, Africa, Europe and Middle East.

Carlos Flaquer CLC Marketing and Sales Manager stressed the importance of choosing the Caucedo Logistics Center as the main logistics redistribution platform of IKEA for the Caribbean and America, receiving goods from different geographical areas for consolidation and redistribution from the country. “IKEA is the first multinational to establish a regional logistics hub in the country, strengthening our goal of becoming a true center of logistics activities,” said Mr Flaquer.

Meanwhile Jose Juan Batista, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IKEA Dominican Republic said, “IKEA bets on the excellent geographical location of the Dominican Republic for the growth and expansion of the brand in the Dominican Republic and the region. Concentrating our logistics operations in the Caucedo Logistics Center goes hand in hand with the strategy of making our supply chain more efficient, always trying to translate this into savings to our customers when purchasing furniture and decoration products at IKEA”.

The start of IKEA operations in the Caucedo Logistics Center is scheduled for December 2016.
