MEXICO – The Home Depot has recently unveiled a major investment plan in Mexico, announcing a capital injection of USD 1.3 billion for the period 2025–2028.

The initiative will not only strengthen the company’s footprint in the country but is also expected to generate more than 10,000 new jobs—2,000 direct and over 8,000 indirect—marking a significant boost to Mexico’s economy and labor market.

The company, which has operated in Mexico since 2000 and currently employs more than 18,000 people, aims to expand its physical and digital infrastructure, open five new stores per year, and reach a total of 165 stores nationwide. As part of this strategic growth plan, Home Depot will also prioritize domestic suppliers, with the goal of sourcing 100% of its products nationally by 2028. Currently, 85% of the company’s products in Mexico come from local suppliers.

José Antonio Rodríguez Garza, CEO of Home Depot Mexico, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing dependence on imports and increasing opportunities for Mexican businesses. “This investment supports our strategic plan to strengthen national supply chains, open more stores, and continue positioning ourselves as the product authority in the sector,” said Rodríguez Garza.

The announcement was celebrated by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who highlighted it as a key component of the government’s Plan México—a national development strategy aimed at reducing poverty, inequality, and boosting industrial growth. “Mexico is experiencing a wave of domestic and foreign investments that are translating into job creation and improved quality of life,” she stated.

The investment aligns with the Mexican government’s goals for inclusive and sustainable economic development. According to Ximena Escobedo Juárez, head of the Ministry of Economy’s Productive Development Unit, “This investment reflects the confidence of international companies in our country and contributes directly to the industrial development objectives set by the federal administration.”

Home Depot also plans to enhance its sustainability and digital strategies. Nearly half of its stores in Mexico already operate on renewable energy, and the company continues to expand its eco-friendly product offerings. Additionally, its website receives 250 million visits annually, making it the sixth most visited retail site in Mexico.

With more than 8,000 days of volunteer work completed through its community programs, Home Depot reaffirms its long-term commitment to Mexico—not only as a market, but as a partner in building a prosperous and sustainable future.
