Häfele Prepares to Commission New High-Tech Logistics Facility

GERMANY –   Häfele is set to commission its new state-of-the-art logistics facility at Wolfsberg, with functional tests already underway in a virtual environment. Real goods and package tests will begin in the coming weeks, with the official opening scheduled for early 2026.

The company expects to receive the occupancy permit in October 2025, marking a major milestone in the project.

The new logistics center is directly linked to the existing facility via a bridge for goods and people. “Approximately fifty years after commissioning our shipping center, we are now reaching another important milestone in the modernization process,” said company director Gregor Riekena. The existing building will continue to handle primarily large-scale shipments.

With this expansion, Häfele is increasing its shipping capacity and introducing a new operating principle: “The goods now come to the person instead of the other way around,” explained Boris Katic, responsible for purchasing, production, logistics, and quality management. The warehouse will house 96,000 containers managed by 132 shuttles across 33 levels in four aisles, with a handling capacity of 2,038 containers per hour.

The system will feed goods to ten ergonomic picking stations. Automated processes will streamline efficiency: delivery notes will be enclosed automatically, packages labeled, and the packaging process adjusted to reduce height, filler material, and transport volume. This innovation will cut truck journeys and lower CO₂ emissions.

Looking ahead, Häfele plans a second expansion phase beginning in 2027, which will add new spaces for innovation, events, and collaboration. A tower with dining facilities, offices, and a public observation deck will complement the logistics hub, while event and showroom areas will create added value for the wider region.

“We are delighted to soon open the heart of logistics and innovation to visitors,” said Riekena. “Through collaboration with suppliers, customers, and end users, we aim to drive new solutions for spaces that deliver real added value.”
