Colombian Particleboard Imports Up 22% in 8M-2024

COLOMBIA – From January to August 2024 (8M-2024), Colombia’s imports of particleboard / MDP totaled USD 114.12 million, reflecting a notable increase of 22% compared to USD 93.53 million in the same period of 2023.

In terms of volume, Colombian imports of particleboard in 8M-2024 reached 262,742 cubic meters compared to 193,678 cubic meters in 8M-2023.

Ecuador easily remained the largest supplier country, despite a slight decline of 1.2%, providing USD 71.09 million. Brazil, however, saw remarkable growth, with imports growing by 194% to USD 18.79 million, establishing it as a significant player in the market. Chile also experienced substantial gains, with imports rising 45.3% to USD 14.26 million.

Among Colombian importers, Madecentro led with USD 59.94 million, although this represented a decrease of 4.4% from 8M-2023. Dexco / Duratex had the most impressive growth, with imports increasing by 194.5% to USD 16.22 million. Other notable importers included Sodimac Colombia, whose imports rose by 122.8% to USD 5.84 million, and Industrias Dofi, which experienced an 82.6% increase to USD 3.97 million.

Novopan Del Ecuador, the largest supplier to the Colombian market,  had a slight decline of 1.4% to USD 71 million. Dexco SA experienced remarkable growth of 194.5%, increasing its shipments to Colombia from USD 5.5 million in 2023 to USD 16.2 million in 2024. Similarly, Berneck SA’s exports to Colombia grew by 206%, climbing to nearly USD 2.5 million. Maderas Arauco SA and Tableros Hispanos also posted impressive increases of 65.9% and 47.5%, respectively. Overall, the import landscape reflects a dynamic market, with a clear trend towards increased competition and growth among various suppliers.
