Ecuador fastest growing market for Chilean plastic edges

CHILE – During the January – November period of 2014 Chile’s exports of plastic edges to the region totaled USD 5.8 million, an 11.1% drop from the USD 6.5 million of the same period 2013.

The best performing export market was Ecuador, with 30% growth. Colombia was the only other export market that registered growth, with an 8% increase for the 2014 period. Chiles PVC edges are produced by Rehau and Canplast (Surteco Group).

By size, the main markets for Chile’s plastic edges were: Argentina USD 1.642.639 million (2013: USD 1.870.539), Colombia USD 1.565.565 (2013: USD 1.448.351), Peru USD 1.060.307 (2013: USD 1.392.223), Ecuador USD 812.393 (2013: USD 614.793) and Venezuela USD 347.222 (2013: USD 766.083).

Venezuela and Peru registered the sharpest drops, 54.7% and 23.8% respectively. Difficulties in the access to dollars by importers explain Venezuela’s drop, while the penetration of Asian imports explain Peru’s numbers.
