EGGER ventures into the production of polypropylene edgebanding

GERMANY – EGGER, the wood-based materials and edging manufacturer – through its affiliate Roma Plastik – is investing in a polypropylene (PP) edging production line in its Brilon (DE) plant.

Through this PP edging facility, the EGGER Group wishes to respond to the demand within the edging sector in Europe, and further develop its market position in this segment.

Polypropylene edges are primarily used in the furniture industry in Northern and Western Europe. The EGGER plant in Brilon, with its exclusive focus on PP edges, is strategically located access to this market. The only other edge manufacturing site of the EGGER Group, Roma Plastik in Gebze, Turkey, continues to manufactured ABS, PVC and PMMA edges, as well as the retail range.

“By developing Brilon into an edging location, we continue to strengthen our position as full-range supplier, which we became in 2010 upon acquiring the majority shares in Roma Plastik“, Ulrich Bühler, Head of Sales and Marketing EGGER Group, explains the investment. “The high demand for PP edges in the Northern and Western Europe furniture industry is particularly relevant for us, while retail and other regions demand almost exclusively ABS, PVC and PMMA edges, which we supply perfectly well from Gebze.”
