BRAZIL - During the first eight months of 2023 (8M-2023), Brazilian wood furniture exports decreased by 17.5%, totaling a value of USD 373.70 million compared to the same period in 2022 (8M-2022: USD 453.13 million).
The United States, which is the main destination for these exports, experienced the largest decrease among the main recipient countries of Brazilian wood furniture. Exports fell from USD 195.26 million in 8M-2022 to USD 130.63 million in 8M-2023, representing a decrease of 33.1%.
The United Kingdom, as the second largest foreign market, recorded a 12.3% decrease, from USD 35.61 million in 8M-2022 to USD 31.22 million in 8M-2023.
In 8M-2023, Uruguay overtook Chile to become the third largest foreign market for Brazilian wood furniture, with a total of USD 26.24 million, representing an increase of 25.7% compared to 8M-2022 (USD 20.86).
Chile, on the other hand, experienced a significant drop of 26.6%, becoming the fourth largest foreign market with a total of USD 26.11 million in 8M-2023 (8M-2022: USD 35.57 million).
It was followed by Peru, which recorded a total of USD 17.78 million, representing a decrease of 12.6%.
As for the exporting states, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande Do Sul maintained their positions as the main contributors in 8M-2023. Santa Catarina experienced a decrease of 28.5%, from USD 218.23 million in 8M-2022 to USD 156.07 million in the same period of 2023. In contrast, Rio Grande Do Sul experienced a much milder decrease of 6.4%, with exports worth USD 114.94 million in 8M-2023 compared to USD 122.81 million in 8M-2022.
