Brazilian Companies Commit to Fighting Climate Change

BRAZIL - The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) presented the Ministry of Economy a document titled ‘Entrepreneurs for the Climate’ which was signed by over 100 private sector entities in which they defend a low carbon economy and take responsibility for implementing change.

956BRASILAt the time the document was delivered the business community highlighted the opportunities generated from a sustainable business model such as job and income generation and how the action by the private sector is essential for the country to achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The CEBDS brings together around 80 of the country's largest business groups responsible for 47% of the Brazilian GDP and 1.1 million jobs.

Thirteen of the fifteen largest companies by market value in the country are members of CEBDS.

In related news, a study ‘Opportunities for Brazil in Carbon Markets’, produced by the Brazil International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) shows that the carbon market has a potential to generate revenues of up to USD 100 billion by 2030 as well as creation of employment opportunities.
