Brazil: Forest sector companies invest BRL 114 million to help combat COVID-19

BRAZIL – Companies of the forestry sector are part of a large private initiative which is helping the country combat this crisis. Bracell, Cenibra, CMPC (and its subsidiary Softys), Duratex, Gerdau, Ibema, International Paper, Klabin, Suzano, Veracel and Westrock have invested at least BRL 114 million to benefit Brazilians throughout the territory.

883BRASILThe funds were used to donate hospital equipment, protective materials for health professionals, hygiene items, groceries, in addition to products manufactured by the industry itself, in 12 states: Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Ceará, Bahia, Pernambuco, Maranhão and Pará.

The forestry sector has been looking for a balance between minimizing the devastating effects of COVID-19, ensuring that the products that leave its factories scattered in almost all Brazilian states reach the hospitals and homes where they are essential, while taking firm attitudes to take care of their employees' health.

“In the crisis, we have three certainties: there are lessons, opportunities and the crisis always end. Companies have learned lessons every day, from caring for employees and third parties to helping communities and other Brazilians. In addition, the social work carried out by companies is proving essential for Brazil to face this moment ”, said Paulo Hartung, president of IBÁ (Brazilian Tree Industry).
