Brazilian panel production and consumption continues to drop in August

BRAZIL - Brazilian wood based panel production declined for the fifth consecutive month in August according to IBA (Industria Basilera de Arvores).

Tableros 201509Brazilian panel production reached 535 thousand cubic meters in August that compares with 691 thousand cubic meters in the same month 2014, a 22.6% decline.

Due to an important increase in exports and a considerable decline in panel imports (-85.7%), apparent consumption was down 23.2% in August reaching 536 thousand cubic meters (2014: 698 thousand).

For the January-August period panel production in Brazil reached 4.39 million cubic meters compared to 4.67 million cubic meters in the same period 2014 (-6.1%). For the first 8 months of the year, apparent consumption was down 7% totaling 4.4 million cubic meters (2014: 4.7 million cm).
