URUGUAY (Notifix).- Uruguay’s MDF panel exports totaled USD 4,968,245 during the first five months of 2013, registering a 90% growth against the same period last year (2012: USD 2,612,272).

Mexico, with 35.3% (USD 1,754,757) of shipments is clearly the leading foreign market. Next in importance are Peru (19.9%), Chile (15.8%) and Ecuador (8.9%).

It is important to point out that in Uruguay the only MDF panelboard producer is Urupanel. Founded in 2004 with Chilean capital, Urupanel started its activities producing plywood, and only until 2008 installed a production line for MDF. In the following years the company ran into financial difficulties, until in 2012, it was bought by the Ecuadorian Aglomerados Cotopaxi S.A. (ACOSA).
