BRAZIL – The Brazilian furniture industry reduced its furniture trade deficit by 73.9% in the first two months of 2016.
In the period, furniture exports were down 8.4% and reached USD 77.8 million (2015: USD 84.9 million), while Brazilian furniture imports in the period reached USD 92.1 million, down 34.1% compared to 2015 (USD 139,7 million).
Among the main destination countries for Brazilian furniture exports the South American markets were specially affected with drops in exports to Argentina (-22.4%), Bolivia (-16.4%), Chile (-18.5%) and Paraguay (-36.3%). Among the main supplying countries, important drops in purchases in the first two months were recorded in purchases to South Korea (-56.9% ), China (-44.6% ), Italy (- 38.9% ) and Germany (-38.9%).
