BRAZIL – In September 2016, according to IBA (Industria Brasileira de Árvores) monthly report, Brazilian domestic sales of wood panels reached 479,000 m3, which represented a drop of 8.6% compared to September 2015 (524,000 m3).
Domestic panel consumption in Brazil also experienced a strong drop of 8.6% in September 2016 from 524,000 consumed in September 2015 to 479,000 in September 2016.
Consolidated domestic sales in Brazil, for the January – September 2016 period, reached 4,67 million m3, a decrease of 4.9 % compared to the same period 2015 (4,91 million m3). Consolidated consumption of panels decreased by 4.9%, in the first nine months of 2016 (4,68 million m3) as compared to the same period of 2015 (4,92 million m3).
Brazilian panel manufacturers were able to partially offset lower domestic sales and consumption in the first nine months of 2016 by maintaining an important growth of 66.8% panel exports in the period and reaching 734,000 m3 (2015: 440,000 m3).
