Strong decline in Brazilian board consumption in June

BRAZIL – According to IBA, association of Brazil’s forestry industry, Brazilian domestic board consumption in June fell to its lowest level since February of this year.

Apparent board consumption in June totaled 491 thousand cubic meters, an 8.9% decline compared to apparent board consumption data of June 2014. For the first half of the year, apparent board consumption in Brazil has fallen 3.1% reaching 3.31 million cubic meters against the 3.41 million of the first half of 2014.

On the other hand, external markets have proven a growing opportunity for Brazilian boards. Exports in June were up 73.5% against the same month of 2014, totaling 59 thousand cubic meters. For the first half of 2015 exports reached 289 thousand cubic meters, up 48.2% against the first half of the previous year.
