Spanish wood – furniture exports grow 9.5 % in 2013

SPAIN – Exports of the Spanish wood – furniture industry grew 9.5% in 2013, with sales of € 2,770.5 million (2012: € 2,530.5 million), as reported by the Spanish Confederation of the Woodworking Industry – CONFEMADERA HABITAT.

Galicia is Spain’s top exporting region, with €570.9 million in 2013.

Of the sector’s total, €1603.2 million were foreign sales of furniture, an increase of 12.3 % against 2012. Followed by fiberboard, with €226.4 million in exports in 2013, timber (€ 158.5 million) and plywood, veneer and laminated (€ 147.2 million).

France, with €627.4 million, a rise of 7.5%, is in the leading buyer of Spanish wood and furniture products; followed by Portugal, with 491.4 million (+9.3 %); UK, with 179.8 million (+15.4 %); Germany (€ 154.1 million, +6.3 %); and Italy (€ 112.1 million, +2.8%).

Regarding sector imports, these fell by 2.1 % in 2013, to €2,983.6 million compared to € 3,046.7 million of 2012.
