NETHERLANDS –  Swedish forestry cooperative Södra, owned by 52,000 forest owners and a key pillar in Sweden’s forest industry, has finalized the acquisition of 100% ownership in Dutch company Smartt Timber B.V.

The move consolidates Södra’s presence in the Netherlands and Belgium, markets where Smartt has long served as a critical sales channel for Södra Wood.

Södra previously held a partial stake in Smartt Timber. By taking full control, the company reaffirms its long-term commitment to the region and strengthens its ability to deliver climate-smart, renewable wood products to a broader customer base.

“Through this acquisition, we have the opportunity to increase and improve our local market presence and expand our offering to new market segments in the Netherlands and Belgium,” stated Andreas Jonasson, Marketing Manager at Södra Wood.

The company confirmed that Smartt Timber’s operations will continue without disruption. Customers, employees, and leadership will be unaffected, with co-founder Robert Jan de Waard staying on as CEO and Ronald Rijswijk continuing in his role.

“Södra has been a fantastic partner, and the full transition of ownership feels like a natural evolution,” said de Waard. “Our customers can expect the same service, quality products, and trusted contacts moving forward.”

With this acquisition, Södra aims to strengthen its integrated European network and continue its mission of turning forest resources into high-value, sustainable solutions for global markets.
