BRAZIL – In August 2016, according to IBA (Industria Brasileira de Árvores) monthly report, Brazilian domestic sales of wood panels reached 533,000 m3, which represented a drop of 0.4% compared to August 2015 (535,000 m3).
Domestic panel consumption in Brazil also experienced a small drop of 0.4% in August 2016 from 536,000 m3 consumed in August 2015 to 534,000 in August 2016.
Consolidated domestic sales in Brazil, for the January – August 2016 period, reached 4,19 million m3, a decrease of 4.4% compared to the same period 2015 (4,39 million m3). Consolidated consumption of panels decreased by 4.5%, in the first eight months of 2016 (4,20 million m3) as compared to the same period of 2015 (4,39 million m3).
Brazilian panel manufacturers were able to partially offset lower domestic sales and consumption in the first eight months of 2016 by maintaining an important growth of panel exports in the period and reaching 644,000 m3 (2015: 389,000 m3).
