USA – Roseburg Forest Products has announced the closure of its Dillard Hardwood Plywood facility and its exit from the hardwood plywood market, marking a strategic shift toward a more focused product portfolio with stronger long-term growth potential.
The Dillard Hardwood Plywood plant—part of Roseburg’s larger Dillard complex in Oregon, which also includes MDF and lumber operations—was one of the company’s oldest facilities. The 107 affected employees will receive transition support and are encouraged to apply for positions at other Roseburg locations. All other Dillard operations will continue as normal.
According to the company, imports now make up about 80% of the U.S. hardwood plywood market, prompting Roseburg to focus on its core businesses.
“Successful businesses never stand still,” said Stuart Gray, President and CEO. “We’re sharpening our focus on products that best utilize our high-quality fiber—such as engineered wood, MDF, lumber, and softwood plywood—supported by ongoing investments in operational excellence.”
Since April 2023, Roseburg has invested nearly USD 700 million in its Southern Oregon operations, including the launch of Armorite® Exterior Trim and upgrades across plants in Douglas and Coos counties.
“Our hardwood plywood legacy dates back to 1952,” added Gray. “This decision reflects changing markets, evolving customer needs, and our commitment to long-term success.”
