Peruvian particleboard imports up 13.2% in 2016

PERU – In 2016 Peruvian particleboard/MDP imports reached USD 76.2 million dollars, an increase of 13.2% compared to 2015 (USD 67.4 million). Ecuador and Chile were by far the two most important particleboard/MDP supplying countries to the important Peruvian market with shipments of USD 32.8 and 25.9 million respectively.

tableros 201701 Ecuadorian exports had a slight fall (0.8%), while Chilean exports grew strongly (12.3%). Even with an 8.7% drop, Spain maintained it position as the third supplying country with nearly USD 9 million (2015: USD 9.8 million). Brazil with USD 8.9 million was the fourth supplying country to the Peruvian market and emerges as an important competitor ongoing.

Among the top importing companies Novopan and Arauco were again the top two in 2016 with imports of USD 31.3 and 15.1 million respectively. Novopan imports grew 1.4% and Arauco’s were up 7.3% compared to 2015. Masisa and Martin Group followed with USD 9.7 and 8.9 million. Pisopak (USD 2.7 million), Tableros Peruanos (USD 2.6 million) and Duratex Andina (USD 1.2 million) emerged as importers of boards of Brazilian origin during 2016 and together totaled an 8.5% share of total imports.
