PERU – Peruvian imports of particleboard (PB/MDP) were valued at USD 79.56 million during the January-June period of 2023 (6M-2023), representing a 14.9% decline compared to the same period in 2022 (6M-2022: USD 93.51 million).
In 6M-2023, Novopan Peru emerged as the leading company importing PB/MDP into the Peruvian market, with imports totaling USD 37.29 million. This marked a 9.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022 (6M-2022: USD 34.12 million). Notably, it was the only one among the top five PB/MDP importers to experience a growth in their foreign purchases.
Following Novopan Peru, Representaciones Martín imported USD 19.44 million worth of PB/MDP, reflecting an 8.2% decrease compared to the preceding year (6M-2022: USD 21.17 million). Arauco Peru contributed USD 8.48 million (-13.2%), Maderas America with USD 5.84 million (-17.5%), and Masisa Peru with USD 2.41 million (-62.5%).
Ecuador once again took the lead as the primary supplier country of PB/MDP to the Peruvian market in 6M-2023, with shipments amounting to USD 38.04 million. This represented a 9.7% increase when compared to the same period in 2022 (6M-2022: USD 34.68 million).
Spain maintained its position as the second-largest supplier country in 6M-2023, with a total of USD 18.37 million, despite experiencing a 15.6% decrease from the USD 21.75 million shipped to Peru in 6M-2022.
Chile outperformed Brazil to become the third-largest supplier country in the same period, with USD 11.92 million, reflecting a 21.1% decrease compared to 6M-2022 (USD 15.10 million).
Brazil followed with USD 9.65 million (6M-2022: USD 17.25 million). It witnessed the most substantial decline among the top PB/MDP supplying countries to the Peruvian market in the first six months of the year, with a decrease of -44.0%.
