Peruvian Imports of wooden furniture continue to decline

PERU – In the 1Q-2018, Peruvian imports of wooden furniture totaled USD 11.7 million, a drop of 12.9% compared to the same period of the previous year (1Q-2017: 13.4 million).

785IUMPORTSPERU Brazil was by far the main supplier country in 1Q-2018 with USD 7.5 million, which represented 68.1% of the total imported in the quarter. China followed with USD 6.1 million and Chile with USD 0.4 million.

Peru’s main importers of wooden furniture in in 1Q-2018 were Sodimac, the home improvement chain of Falabella Group, with USD 4.3 million and Homecenters Peruanos under its banner Promart, that reached USD 2.1 million. Consolidated imports of these two home improvement retailers accounted for 54.8% of the total wood furniture imported to Peru.

Imports of Sodimac in 1Q-2018 grew 36.5% compared to 1Q-2017 while imports of Promart, dropped 54.8% in 1Q-2018 compared to 1Q-2017. Saga Falabella followed with USD 1.2 million, very similar to the same period 2017.
