Peruvian fiberboard imports fall 4.6%

PERU – In the January – May 2016 period Peruvian fiberboard imports reached USD 10,243,433, representing a 4.6% decrease compared to the same period 2015.

tableros 201607 Despite a 12.1% drop in the period, Chile was the largest supplier country with shipments of USD 6,391,542 (2015: USD 7,275,460) and 62.4% of total imports. Brazil was the fastest growing fiberboard supplier country to the Peruvian market, with shipments for USD 1,945,885 and a 92.7% increase compared to the same period 2015. Turkey remained as the third supplier country with shipment valued at USD 1,235,648.

Regarding importing company, Arauco Peru was the largest importer with USD 5.359.660 and 52.3% share of the total. Followed by Masisa Peru with USD 1,735,528 in fiberboard imports and Grupo Martin with USD 1,701,528. Imports of the recently formed Duratex Andina, a subsidiary of Duratex – the largest manufacturer of fiberboard in Brazil – reached USD 434,047, representing a 4.2% share of total imports by Peruvian companies.
