COLOMBIA – Plywood imports in Latin America during 2023 have shown a mixed picture. Despite a slight decline in overall imports compared to 2022, some countries have experienced significant changes in their figures.
According to data from Sisduan, total plywood imports in the region reached USD 192.42 million in 2023, representing a decrease of 4.2% from the previous year, which was USD 200.93 million.
Argentina saw imports fall by 22.4%, down from USD 16.93 million in 2022 to USD 13.13 in 2023. Chile recorded a decrease of 15.2%, with imports dropping to USD 32.82 million. Colombia experienced a decline of 25.9%, with figures down to USD 16.44 million.
In contrast, Costa Rica saw imports grow by 11.5%, reaching USD9.97 million. The Dominican Republic showed a modest increase of 4.6%, totaling USD 29.69 million. El Salvador’s imports decreased by 12.6%, and Guatemala also experienced a decrease of 13.3%.
Honduras had the most significant increase, with growth of 181.4%, reaching USD 7.16 million. Panama saw imports grow by 6.0%, while Peru noticed an increase of 10.6%, with imports totaling USD 43.41 million.
The plywood market in Latin America faces challenges, reflected in the overall decline of imports in several countries. However, some, like Honduras and Peru, have shown remarkable growth, suggesting opportunities in this sector for those looking to invest and adapt to the new market dynamics
