CHILE – Chilean particleboard (MDP) exports experienced an important increase in 2024, reaching USD 123.08 million, a 22.6% increase compared to the previous year.
The growth was driven primarily by strong demand in key markets such as Mexico, Colombia, and the United States, while exports to other countries showed mixed results.
Mexico was the top destination, with exports increasing by 36.2%, from USD 37.47 million in 2023 to USD 51.04 million in 2024. Colombia followed closely with a 50.4% rise in exports, totaling USD 21.5 million compared to USD 14.3 million in 2023.
While Mexico and Colombia saw strong performance, other markets experienced a downturn. Exports to Peru dropped by 18.5%, from USD 19.94 million to USD 16.26 million. Ecuador and Costa Rica also faced declines, with exports falling by 10.1% and 4.5%, respectively. Guatemala saw an increase of 6.3%, with exports rising to USD 8.41 million from USD 7.90 million the year before.
One of the most remarkable developments in 2024 was the explosive growth in exports to the United States. Shipments to the U.S. skyrocketed by an astonishing 1,915.3%, jumping from just USD 230,856 in 2023 to USD 4.65 million in 2024.
In terms of exporters, Arauco continued as the main, reporting a 21.4% increase in exports, from USD 76.46 million in 2023 to USD 92.85 million in 2024. Masisa also reported strong performance, with exports growing by 26.3%, from USD 23.94 million to USD 30.23 million.
