ROMANIA – Austrian wood products manufacturer Kronospan has announced the acquisition of the ZG Timber Sebes plant from the insolvent Ziegler Group.

The agreement, signed on March 1, 2025, is expected to be finalized by mid-year, pending regulatory approvals.
With this acquisition, Kronospan expands its product portfolio by incorporating sawn timber, complementing its existing production of particleboard (PB), medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and oriented strand board (OSB) at its plants in Sebes and Brasov. Kronospan also plans to invest in modernizing the Sebes facility to further enhance production capabilities.
The acquisition ensures the continuity of operations at the Sebes plant, safeguarding 500 local jobs. In 2023, the plant reported EUR 100 million in revenue and EUR 12 million in losses. The plant was not directly affected by the insolvency of Ziegler Holding GmbH in late 2024.
Kronospan, which has been operating in Romania since 1998, reaffirms its commitment to the country. The company has invested over EUR 600 million in its operations in Romania, which include production plants in Brasov and Sebes, a logistics center at the Port of Constanta, and several wood collection and recycling centers throughout the country.
This acquisition strengthens Kronospan’s position as a global leader in wood-based products, while also emphasizing its focus on sustainability and innovation. The company remains committed to producing products with a negative carbon footprint and maintaining high-quality standards across its entire range.
