June shows strong recovery in Brazilian wood panel sales and consumption

BRAZIL – In June 2016, according to IBA (Industria Brasileira de Árvores) monthly report, Brazilian domestic sales of wood panels reached 536,000 m3, which represented an increase of 9.4% compared to June 2015 (490,000 m3).

maderas brasil 201608 Domestic panel consumption in Brazil also experienced an increase of 9.2% in June 2016 (536,000 m3), compared to June 2015 (491,000 m3).

Consolidated domestic sales in Brazil, for the January – June 2016 period, reached 3,2 million m3, a decrease of 4.2% compared to the same period 2015 (3,30 million m3). Consolidated consumption of panels also decreased by 4.4%, in the first six months of 2016 (3,16 million m3) as compared to the same period of 2015 (3,30 million m3).

Brazilian panel manufacturers were able to partially offset lower domestic sales and consumption in the first six months of 2016 by maintaining a considerable growth of panel exports in the period and reaching 443,000 m3 (2015: 289,000 m3).
